Now more than ever, LBS plays a critical role in supporting Better Jobs Ontario (BJO) applicants. We help people gain the skills they need for success before they start their two-year program.

Digital Skills
Imagine starting a college program with limited digital skills.
In most two-year programs, students will be required to do things like upload assignments, complete online tests and online courses, email professors and communicate online to complete group assignments. A lack of digital skills will be a barrier and a cause of anxiety.
Values of Skills Training
- Training in digital literacy, reading, writing, communication, math, test taking, and/or study skills prepares students for their next steps
- Skills training is customized to the goals of each person and includes both upgrading and refreshers
- Skills training can also help someone complete a BJO application
The Ideal Candidate
- We can help people even if they have the prerequisites for the program they want
- It is important to note that a grade 12 diploma does not guarantee that a person has the current skills they need for success in a training program
- We can help if someone has been out of school a while and is feeling a bit rusty
- If someone doesn’t have the prerequisite for a program, we can help them develop a plan
- LBS can also benefit those waiting to start their training
Assessment
We start with an assessment to determine if skills upgrading or a skills refresher would be helpful. We will then design a program based on:
- The prerequisites for entry to the program
- The time they have available before their course starts
- The skills needed for the course they hope to take
- Their current strengths and needs
Supporting Success
LBS support may mean that the person will successfully complete their program and avoid exiting early. We are an important step in building both the skills and the confidence needed to experience success in education and training programs. Our goal is to support training program success.
